The camp in the French port city of Calais, used by migrants waiting to cross into Britain from France, is to be closed and demolished, French officials have announced. The camp was established after the official Red Cross camp at Sangatte near Calais was closed in 2002. It is estimated some 3000 people live at the camp which is known locally as 'the jungle'. French officials have said each one of the residents at the camp would be given the chance to apply for asylum or be repatriated.
